Upholstery Cleaning

Sofas, sectionals, recliners, dining chairs, ottomans and headboards, cleaned by fabric.

Read the tag before touching the cushion

Upholstery is cleaned one fabric at a time, so the first thing that happens is a look at what the piece is made of. That covers sofas and sectionals, chairs and recliners, dining chairs, ottomans and headboards. The same living room can hold four different fabrics that each want a different method.

The tag is where that starts. Manufacturers stitch care information into most upholstered furniture, and reading it before choosing a method is what separates a clean sofa from a faded or shrunken one. One customer noticed it too, and the review is set out below.

Where there is no tag, or the tag and the fabric do not seem to agree, we assess the piece itself. We confirm the exact treatment after assessing your surfaces, and that applies to a dining chair as much as a full sectional.

Delicate fabrics get their own method

Wool, velvet, silk and viscose are delicate fabrics, and they are the ones where a general approach does damage. They can water-mark, shift in color or lose their surface, so they get fabric-specific care instead of the routine that suits a durable weave.

The coral woven cushion in the photo above is a good example of what even color after cleaning means: the weave and the color of the whole seat read as one surface again, not as a clean patch next to a tired one.

Headboards and mattresses are part of this work too. A headboard is cleaned like any other upholstered piece. A mattress is assessed first, and we tell you what can be done for it before anything starts.

Fabric protection and aftercare

Fabric protection is optional. It is your call, and the cleaning stands on its own without it. Ask about it when you book, and we will tell you whether it makes sense for the fabric in question.

Cleaning does not rebuild a fabric. Wear, fading and dye loss cannot be reversed by cleaning, and stain removal cannot be guaranteed. We say so at the assessment, before work begins, so that what we promise is what you get.

What is promised is the Every Inch guarantee: if you are not happy with the result, tell us, and we return to readdress the areas of concern at no additional charge. Every OCD HOME appointment has a $250 job minimum, so upholstery pairs well with carpet or rugs in the same visit.

What a customer saw us check

“When cleaning carpets and couches, he looked for tags to tell him exactly the type of material he was working with.”
